September 21, 2010 // Toronto, ON – Calgary, Alberta’s Woodpigeon spent the summer in the fields, woods and meadows but is set to emerge with the coming of autumn. Fans can find BALLADEER / to all the guys i’ve loved before in stores on vinyl and digitally online, along with a new digital EP, Our Love is as Tall as the Calgary Tower today. BALLADEER was originally only available as a bonus CD included with Woodpigeon’s critically acclaimed third album, Die Stadt Muzikanten, released this past February.
BALLADEER was recorded in Calgary and a hotel room in Dublin, and completed last autumn while principle songwriter, Mark Andrew Hamilton was in Banff, Alberta, working with three highly respected producers - Steve Albini, Howard Bilerman and Husky Hoskulds. The resulting twelve beautifully crafted and intimate songs features collaborations with England’s Beth Jeans Houghton, Montreal’s Witchies and Scotland’s Eagleowl. The Calgary Tower EP features a cover of Withered Hand’s “No Cigarettes”, remixes of “Empty-Hall Sing-Along” by Dead Edits and the title-track, “Our Love is as Tall as the Calgary Tower” by Montag, plus a brand new track, “Hove Beach”. In addition Woodpigeon is premiering the video for “Our Love is as Tall ad the Calgary Tower”, directed by Darren Pasemko, here.

Some praise for Die Stadt Muzikanten:
“This is the best album to come out of Canada since Funeral” - Artrocker 5/5
“not unlike late-period Elliott Smith gone wild… This will be big.” – Toronto Star
“Woodpigeon’s third album is a bold declaration of who the band are and what they hope to achieve in the future.” – Exclaim!
“15 beautifully crafted songs.” – Elle Canada
“This is Arcade Fire with ration books and gas masks, or Elliott Smith fronting Sparklehorse.” – NME 8 out of 10

Hopefully you’ll be releasing Treasure.. and Songbook on vinyl some day as well when the (well-deserved) billions starts rolling in..

How come the websites http://www.boompa.ca/balladeer say that you haven’t uploaded your album?

DEAR MARK:
OUT magazine is inviting people to vote for one of their “100 Most Eligible Gay Bachelors.” I voted for you.
Have you ever heard of “Mountain Stage?” It’s a live music program produced by West Virginia Public Radio (with which I have been affiliated in various capacities for a long time). The producers of “Mountain Stage” tend to gravitate toward singer-songwriters and indie bands like Woodpigeon.
You might want to give them a shout. Their website is:
